Dr. Jessica Renee Young, distinguished military career, illustrious leadership, and passion for service has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Ministry from West Coast Bible College & Seminary (WCBCS). The prestigious degree will be presented to her during the upcoming honorary doctorate degree ceremony on June 1, 2024, which will be held both in-person and virtually.

Dr. Phillip S. Porter, President of West Coast Bible College & Seminary, expressed his excitement, stating, “Jessica’s accomplished military service and integrity is truly inspiring, and we are thrilled to welcome Jessica Young into the West Coast family.”

The daughter of Pastor Jessie Garner and Charlene Powell, Jessica Young, was raised in a single-parent household in Eastern North Carolina. She developed an early appreciation for family unity, responsibility, and intentional connection. Her distinguished service epitomizes her core values of kindness, family, and hard work.

Jessica retired from the United States Air Force after serving for 20 years. During her service, she worked diligently with numerous organizations, which focused on the advocacy and well-being of military personnel and their families. Notably, she was the President of Chapter 951, Air Force Sergeant Association (AFSA) and she is a lifetime member of the national organization.  As President, she was instrumental in AFSA being recognized by the Department of Defense as a National Military Organization. Her efforts were key to eliminating unnecessary delays for project approvals. This success enabled chapters nationwide the privilege to coordinate events on and off military installations.

During active duty, she furthered her education by earning her Associate Degree in Logistics from the Community College of the Air Force and her Bachelor of Science in Management from National American University. She went on to complete her Professional Supply Chain Management Certificate in the Air Force Logistics Professional Development Program.

Continuing her Supply Chain & Logistics experience, she leveraged her years of service and education. Jessica was accepted into the Skillbridge program and eventfully hired by Textron Aviation Defense. She is the Logistics Manager for the Tunisian T-6C Program. Continually advocating, she stood up and served as the first President of SHADES Employee Resource Group (ERG). The ERG focuses on advancing the personal and professional development for employees of African descent.

Jessica is the recipient of the following awards:

  • The Meritorious Service Medal
  • The Air Force Commendation Medal (Fourth Oak Leaf Cluster)
  • The Air Force Commendation Medal (Third Oak Leaf Cluster)
  • The Air Force Commendation Medal (Second Oak Leaf Cluster)
  • The Air Force Commendation Medal (First Oak Leaf Cluster)

In addition, she is a Lifetime Member of the Air Force Sergeants Association (AFSA).

Jessica Young’s favorite quote says, “I am thankful for my struggle because, without it, I would not have stumbled across my strength.” by Alexandra Elle.

She resides in Wichita, Kansas with her husband Theo, their two daughters and dog named Xolo. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and cooking.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Jessica Renee Young on the well-deserved honor of receiving an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Ministry from West Coast Bible College & Seminary.
